Lot 82
Price Realized: $798
Lot 82: CD 160 Holmes Tree Insulator in Tree Section Color: Aqua Description: This is a complete Holmes Tree Insulator Bracket. It includes the bottom piece with the split porcelain ring. The ring can be opened up to insert it around an existing wire rather than having to thread the wire through the ring. There is a variant with a metal strap holding in the ring as well as a U-bolt configuration. This is the latter design. The insulator is very weakly embossed "BROOKFIELD" on the front and the embossing on the rear is unknown. The most interesting part is that the tree has swallowed the bracket almost to the point where the lag bolt attaches to the bracket. Who knows how many decades the tree must have grown to swallow this much of the bracket? The tree section was only cut tall enough so that the insulator was above the bottom of the tree section. A display stand is included in this lot to raise up the tree section such that the entire insulator and bracket are above the bottom of the display stand. These complete brackets alone sell in the $200 to $250 range or higher. How much more is the bracket worth when a tree has swallowed it? A very unique piece of history and perhaps a one-of-a-kind item? Estimate: $300 - $400 Open: $1 Price Realized: $798 |
