Lot 159: Transformer Sight Glass  Color: Dark Green  Description: This large and strong cylinder of glass measures 8" tall and 7 1/2" in diameter with 1/2" thick walls. View 2 shows an example of this "sight glass." The purpose was to visually see the level of oil in a large substation transformer. One ICON member reported that, many decades ago, his job in the morning was to go around and check the oil levels in all the transformers. This is called a "sight glass" because it allows one to visually see the level of a liquid in a piece of apparatus. We understand these have been found in Clear, SCA and Amber, but not in Green. We are unable to date it, however, it might be from the 1960s or 1970s? Excellent condition! An interesting go-with which is sure to invoke a "what's it" response from visitors!
