Lot 152: U-189B PEIRCE Color: Dark Brown Description: Recess-marked "PEIRCE / 1605" and "PAT'D / 5-18-15" on the dome. This style of insulator was patented on May 18, 1915 by Robert A. Manwaring and James T. Hessel of New Haven, Connecticut. The insulator was designed to support the power line for street lights. The glaze is beautiful with dark brown and lighter brown mottling. The edges of the wire ridges and flutes are highlighted in tan, emphasizing the unusual shape of this insulator. Very, very near mint. An interesting style for the porcelain collector!
