Lot 71: CD 140 OAKMAN MFG.CO. [010] Color: Aqua Description: This massive "Jumbo" power piece weighs over 4 1/2 pounds. The only embossing is "OAKMAN M'F'G CO. BOSTON" which appears on the base. Great condition, with only a few scuffs here and there that pale in size compared to the surface area of this large insulator. The Oakman Manufacturing Company, which specialized in high voltage distribution insulators, produced CD 140 "Jumbo" insulators for the first underground trolley system in the United States. Service began in downtown Boston around the year 1895. Most of the CD 140s in the hobby today were used on this line. The largest "side groove single petticoat" insulator there is!
