Lot 181: LRO 215 OTIS Color: Crystal Clear w/ Wiggle Top Description: This lightning rod insulator (LRI) is Crystal Clear, as clear as a CD 128 Pyrex. There are several variations of this style, and this example is 1 7/8" tall and about 1 7/8" in diameter. The base of the flutes forms a "V". This is the [20] style which is embossed "OTIS PATENT" on one side and "1851" on the other side. G.W. Otis' patent of August 26, 1851 was for "a new and Improved Mode of Attaching Lightning Rods to Buildings by Means of Glass Isolators". Some chipping and flaking around the base. This is complete with the metal "Wiggle Top"! The advanced collector should own this variant, as well as the variant in lot 180! An unusual style that no LRI collection should be without!
