Lot 205: San Francisco Wooden Trolley Insulator Color: Blond/Brown Two Tone Description: San Francisco trolley insulators were made of lignum vitae wood, which helped them endure the earthquake fires. The finish ranges from rough and crude, as they were taken from the lines, to highly polished with a clear coat applied. This is a nice in-between example that shows the shape and the coloration of the wood. It's a nice two tone example where about 1/4 of the insulator is light blond wood and the other 3/4 is darker. The two tone effect is very prominent when viewed from the front. This is the variant with an inner skirt. Some scuffing at the base and wire ridge in the rear. Some natural checking in the wood as it dried. An unusual addition to your San Francisco wooden insulator collection, especially with the outstanding two tone affect!
