Lot 80: CD 140 OAKMAN MFG.CO. [020] Color: Aqua w/ Milk Worm Description: This example is unusual, with a milky ribbon that starts at the wire groove, runs down in the front to the embossing, and then halfway around the skirt. Base-embossed "OAKMAN M'F'G CO. BOSTON.", the insulator was produced by the Oakman Manufacturing Company, which specialized in high voltage distribution insulators. They produced CD 140 "Jumbo" insulators for the first underground trolley system in the United States. It was located in downtown Boston and service began around the year 1895. Most of the CD 140s in the hobby today were used on this line. Great condition, especially considering the JUMBO size of this piece! Always big! Always popular!
