Lot 60: CD 143 {Unembossed Withycombe} Color: Light Purple Description: The ridges on these are almost always damaged. The top rings are in excellent shape, and the bottom ridges, which form a right handed spiral, are in good shape with some flaking, primarily on the uppermost spiral ridge. Frederick Withycombe patented a number of variations on ridges and other projections, all with the same intent: to better "withstand the impact of foreign bodies" and thereby reduce the likelihood of breakage. Overall, this example of a Withycombe is in very good condition, and the nice purple coloration gives it extra appeal! (#0137) Estimate: $300 - $400 Open: $150 Price Realized: $578 |
