Lot 223: VICTOR BELL Color: Mahogany and Walnut Description: 12" wide x 10" tall. Uncleaned, original patina. The ringer and bell can be cleaned, but we leave that up to the buyer. The covers over the solenoid ringing units are missing, however one may find it's more interesting to actually see the "guts". Stamped "THE VICTOR BELL PAT. FEBY 14. 88." and "M'F'G'D BY THE ELECTRIC GAS L'T'G. CO. BOSTON." Each bell appears to be mounted on a mahogany board, and the pair of them screwed to an ornate walnut backing board. This classic piece probably dates to the 1890s. Each unit bears the patent number 377,916. The two bells, although of the same diameter, are of different thicknesses, such that each one produces a distinct tone when it is rung. The unit is identical to the patent drawing. This item was found in an old Victorian house in Cambridge, MA, right next to Harvard University.
