Lot 44

Lot 44: CD 110.6 NATIONAL INSULATOR CO. Color: Light Blue Description: Two areas of base chipping and a lower wire ridge chip. The insulator has probably been lightly tumbled. A small annealing fissure is created from a neat elongated amber blob. The upper wire ridge and the "corkscrew" are in wonderful condition. Although J. Slater Lewis patented this concept, his patent described the inner and outer threads winding in the same direction. Frank Pope was granted a similar patent, with the threads winding in opposite directions. The large CD 110.6 "corkscrew" was first found on a fire alarm system in New Hampshire, but others were later found in New Jersey along a long distance telephone line. It appears to have been used only on the ridge pin. This insulator is difficult to find undamaged. A hard-to-find CD with some character!
